What is Vaporwave?
An internet based music movement that heavily draws on ironic uses of antiquated technology, loud colors, and time shifted music cut and spliced creating a unique sample heavy product. The music genre is accompanied by a heavy visual component based on a modern interpretation of vintage technology and lifestyle.
Concept Sketching
Exploring ways to utilize vintage technology for modern music media. Pushing the boundaries of color, pattern and faux material accents. Contemplating portable music versus stationary and personal music versus public.
Initial Concept Model
A portable cassette player, AM/FM radio, and MP3 player all in one. With an integrated shoulder strap users can take their music with them while making a bold statement. Headphone outputs would allow the user to utilize the portable music system as a private listening device or jam out with friends. Bright colors, faux marble, and retro styling speak to established Vaporwave aesthetic qualities.
Final Product
Improving on the Initial Concept model with a retractable seat belt style shoulder strap for convenience. The final product also moved tuning and control knobs to the front face while keeping the large tactile volume knob on the side. Control module is now tilted slightly back for easier use when upright as well as auxiliary input and headphone output ports.
